Juvederm™ - Uses and Benefits
FDA-approved Juvederm™ injectable gel is a “next-generation” dermal
filler. The smooth consistency gel helps to instantly restore your

from the
bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

For Smoothing Wrinkles and Folds – Juvederm™ smoothes
wrinkles and folds found in smile lines and nasolabial folds by adding
volume to skin tissue.
For Moderate or Severe Wrinkles and Folds - Juvederm™
injectable gel is available in two formulations: 1) Juvederm™ Ultra
provides versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles
and folds. 2) Juvederm™ Ultra Plus is a more robust formulation for
volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles.
For Persons of Color - Juvederm™ injectable gel
is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has
proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies
with Juvederm™ showed no increased risk of hyper pigmentation or
hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.
The Juvederm™ Difference
Juvederm™’s unique manufacturing process produces
the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any
currently available hyaluronic acid dermal filler for long-lasting
results. The final result is a gel with a smooth consistency that
flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and
feel. All other currently approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers
are made of granular consistency gels. And, Juvederm™ is
the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated its
safety and effectiveness in persons of color.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all
mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to your skin. In addition
to its use as an aesthetic treatment, hyaluronic acid has also been
used for more than 20 years for injection into arthritic joints to
aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair.
The Juvederm™ Treatment Procedure
It is recommended, but not necessary, to discontinue the use of
any medications that may prolong bleeding, including aspirin and
non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, at least 1 week prior to treatment
with Juvederm™ in order to reduce the risk of bruising or bleeding
at the injection site.
Juvederm™ is
injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection
discomfort. Dr. Gilmore prefers to numb (anesthetize) the treatment
area to further minimize discomfort. Dr. Gilmore has a vast experience
with all aesthetic injectable fillers and he performs all the treatments
himself.
Immediately after the injection an ice pack will be applied
to the treatment area to prevent swelling.
Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections as well as repeat injections
are usually needed to maintain optimal corrections.
After the Juvederm™ Procedure
Most side effects from the Juvederm™ procedure
are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting
(7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not
limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as: redness,
pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching,
and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures, there is
a risk of infection.
Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages
for 24 hours after treatment in order to minimize the risk of temporary redness,
swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites. Call immediately with any problems
possibly related to Juvederm™ treatment.
On-Going Juvederm™ Treatments
Juvederm™ treatment is long-lasting but not permanent. The length
of time a treatment maintains its effect is very individual and depends
on many factors, such as your age, skin type, life-style and muscle
activity, as well as the injection technique. Experience shows that
Juvederm™ can be effective for up to 6 months or more after the treatment
of lines and folds.
Together with Dr. Gilmore, you can draw up a plan for regular future visits to
maintain the results of your Juvederm™ treatments. Most patients choose to have
a follow-up treatment approximately six to 12 months after the initial treatment
of wrinkles, lines and folds.
